Loomy Thoughts

We have pictures!

Lucky for me, it turns out DH had the camera yesterday - which means I didn't leave it somewhere. Whew!

I did the finishing on the Herringbone scarf yesterday, and here is a snippet that is pinned out for blocking:

As I suspected, Wool-ease doesn't block very well, but I like how the scarf puffed up when I unpinned it this morning:

I started a JIT hat last night from the same yarn to go with it, but only have half the brim done because I am a really poky knitter. I especially like the idea of this hat because of the doubled brim - my ears are always cold with knit hats because they stretch too much and let the wind in. I hope the ribbed-and-doubled brim will fix that.

I did find enough (I hope) Wool-ease in Forest Green Heather to do the pullover I mentioned yesterday - I found 8 skeins, so keep your fingers crossed!

I haven't measured the merino/tencel yet, but I did wind it into a skein to make a nice picture. Ta-da!

I also have the repaired base of my Pedal Pusher back, but am having a bit of difficulty re-attaching it to wheel. But kudos to Nels for getting it back to me so fast!

And I set up the vintage knitting machine yesterday and played around with it a bit. The bed is kind of short, and I really need to take it apart and do a really good cleaning and oiling, but I think it is so cool-looking:

It's a Dual-Craft from Canada, but that's all I've been able to find out about it.

That's all I have for today. I should be able to get some more knitting in, but I have non-crafty stuff I need to do today so probably won't get much accomplished. One can always hope, though!

  • Hi CL,

The scarf and merino/tencel look great! Good job.

Machine knitting too? Good! I need motivation to get back at my knitting machines. I haven't touched them in months.

Good luck with the weaving demo!

    Peace
    C

  • Thanks! :-D

Yep, machine-knitting too. I bought my first knitting machine (Bond ISM) because I couldn't handknit, then I taught myself to handknit and put the machines away 'for awhile'. The 'awhile' has lasted a few years, so I'll probably have to start all over!

I'm going to put the Dual-Craft away again for awhile, and get one of the more ready-to-work machines out once I decide what I might want to make on them. :-D

  • Scarf looks great, but I'm biased,

  • LOL As you should be, Li, it's a great pattern! I showed the finished scarf to DH who really liked it, then he turned it over and was very surprised to see the different pattern on the other side. I may end up making one for him too. :-)

  • I have a bond I bought for 20$ from a thrift store about 25 years ago. I pulled it out this morning and was hoping to find some info on it when I found your site. Have you found any? Mine is missing the knob on top.

  • Donna,

Do you have a Bond or a Dual-Craft? They are two very different knitting machines (for instance, the Bond doesn't have a knob on it's carriage, and it's plastic).

For Bond stuff (you got a great deal, regardless of which machine you picked up!), you can start with http://www.bond-america.com/. There are also Yahoo Groups, and googling will get you tons of hits.

Sadly, the same is not true for Dual-Crafts. The last time I looked, I found one other person that was searching as I was, and I think there was a hit where one had been for sale.

Sorry I can't be more help!

  • Oops Sorry, I meant I have a Dual-Craft (I've been thinking about Bonds lately). Anyways I've searched the internet and yours was the only hit I have so far. By your picture at least I know how to set it up, thank you.

  • Donna,

I might have a parts drawing, but I'm not sure where it is. If I'm lucky, it will be with the machine and I'll be able to scan it for you. If you would send me your e-mail address (clbrew (at) gmail (dot) com) I'll send it when I find it.

  • I just recieved an heirloom, it is a Dual-Craft home knitting machine, but the row counter is missing, anyone know where I can get one? pleaseeee

By Blogger Theresa, at 3/31/2009 3:06 AM

  • Theresa,

Unfortunately I do not know where you could get a row counter - I can't even find basic information on these machines.

If you or someone you know is handy, you may be able to rig something up though, using a Bond USM/ISM row counter or something similar.

    Good luck!

  • Hello,
I also just bought a Duel Craft knitting machine and am trying to find replacement needles as a bunch of mine are bent... Any ideas?
    Thanks!

By Anonymous Jessica, at 4/12/2012 1:02 AM

  • Sadly there is little to no information on these knitting machines. :-( You *may* be able to get needles made if you have a metalsmith nearby, but I have no idea how much they would charge for something like that. Or you can try straightening them yourself.

    Good luck!

  • Hello...I have a dual craft as well but I dont know if I am supposed to thread it thru the metal knob that seems to adjust tension and has a spring on it. (not the red handle LOL) I cant tell by your picture but it looks like you just threaded thru the thread guide in front of it (the one that swings side to side. Also what type of yarn am I to use?? I cant seem to find much where I live that looks fine other than baby yarn but it isnt on a spool (again I am assuming yarn should be on a spool) Any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance Jeanne

  • I have a Dual Craft I bought for five dollars at a thrift store. I desperately want to use it! There is little to no info on it (in the whole entire world it seems) and mine comes with very vague setup instructions on it. I've cleaned it and fiddled with it and I know it has the capability to work. (I also have limited capabilities with knitting machines). How would one go about casting on with this thing? My "instructions" say to thread it through the holder and then through the holder on the cam and away you go. I've tried this and it works, but then I can't drop the cast on bar. With no setup instructions I'm having an impossible time. I've gone through youtube to get a sense of it, but I'm getting a mishmash of information and don't know how to apply it to my machine. Help!!!

  • Would you have instructions for your dual craft knitting machine? I have 2 but dont have instructions.

  • I recently acquired a Dual Craft and all the associated paperwork and manuals!! The darn thing is still impossible to get working properly...
