Loomy Thoughts

Nuts!

My home computer crashed last night, and I don't know how long it will be before it is fixed (or replaced *sigh*).

Since I spent last night working on the computer, I didn't get any crafting done. Probably won't get any done tonight either, as I'll probably be working on the computer again.

Wish me luck!

WeaveCast

I forgot to mention last night that WeaveCast has a podcast up about rigid heddle weaving. It includes an interview with Betty Davenport, and a review of the Schacht Flip loom. Go check it out:

WeaveCast

They also do a review of Ms. Davenport's book "Hands On Rigid Heddle Weaving", and mention her video "Rigid Heddle Weaving - Level 1" (the only video of RH weaving I am aware of) and her out-of-print book, "Textures and Patterns for the Rigid Heddle Loom".

I rented the video several years ago from Halcyon; I know it helped make sense of how to warp but I don't remember much more about it. Now that I actually weave on my RHs I need to buy my own copy.

I have the "Textures" book as well, but I've been holding off on that until I work through the "Hands On" book first (and I've mostly been jumping around doing projects as I think of them, instead of following any of the books).

I found the podcast quite interesting, though not what I had expected (I had expected information on how to do things, but that wasn't the aim of the podcast). This is the first chance I've had to listen to any of the podcasts, so I don't know what the others are like; but I will be listening to them all, eventually. :-D

Sunday night

Wow am I running late (as usual!). As promised, here are the pictures of the scarf. It's hard to see the diagonal on this side - it is more obvious in real life, but this dark yarn is hard to capture properly:
I pinned it out, but it didn't seem to help with the picture-taking.

The other side is a nice pattern as well:

It is not diagonal, but is a nice rib. I'm loving it so far, despite not begin able to see what I'm doing. :-D (Reminder, I'm a slooooow knitter (and everything else) so it will take me awhile to finish it.)

The decision has been made on the next Harp project; it will be a reversible towel project. I didn't get into the stash today to see what I'm going to use; that will have to wait until tomorrow.

What a week!

I've been working on the diagonal rib scarf, but had to frog it today as I made a bunch of mistakes. But I'm back to the same point now, so hopefully I'll get going on this.

It's been an "interesting" week so I haven't gotten anything else done. I hope by tomorrow to have enough done on the scarf for a picture, and I also hope to decide on my next Harp project, though I won't get to warping for a few more days. I need to get my tomato starts going and some yard clean-up (oh, and some housework too).

I am going to get back to weaving soon, honest! :-D

I've started a new project!

It's a knitting project though - a herringbone rib scarf (I seem to be on a scarf kick lately). The pattern is by Li at Life's A Stitch blog:

I'm using Lion Brand Woolese, I think the color is pine (very dark green & blue). I've only done one repeat so far, and the pattern is very easy to follow and already feels cushy! I do need to stop buying so many dark-colored yarns, though, as I don't think I'll be able to see the pattern!

In weaving news, I've been going through my blog archives and
re-reading what I've written so far, getting ideas. I've been busy but not getting anything done. The faster I go the behinder I get! LOL I hope to have some weaving news this week though.

For now, I leave you with a picture of a completely completed placemat - my first Harp project. I still really really like them. :-D

I've been in a crafting funk lately...

I did throw a few picks on the scarf this weekend, but it's really hard to weave with a 60-pound dog on your lap, and he was there most of the weekend. I didn't spin because my hands are so dry they snag everything. I can't decide what to weave or knit next, and my carpal-tunnel-affected hand has been sore so it's been easy to 'avoid' knitting/crocheting. I did enjoy the new Hawaii Five-0 first season dvds that just arrived in the mail though. :-)

I do need to get back to my knitted-lace project, and I have an interesting dishcloth pattern I was knitting (assuming I remember where I was in the pattern). I should pick up an UFO or two and work on that - I need to go back and look at how I planned to get all of these UFOs done or frogged.

I also want to try entrelac, if I can find the pattern I had picked out to start with. If I could just get motivated....

A picture!

I'm running behind as always, but here is the (bad) picture of Calorimetry from Knitty. I used two buttons to keep it neater, since it's a little long.

I still haven't tried it on to see if it shrunk any while washing, but looser might be better anyway - at least it won't give me a headache!

I need motivating to work on DH's scarf on the small RH - maybe I can bribe myself with chocolate. Hmm....

Just a quick update...

Hopefully I'll get a picture of Calorimetry up tonight. I finished it in about 4 hours - it's a bit big, even for my big head, but I'm hoping it shrunk a bit when I handwashed it (I might try popping it in the dryer for about 10 minutes). I love it anyway. :-D I double-stranded the yarn, used size 9 needles (I think I could've gone down another size), and cast on 100. Next time I'll probably cast on (my original plan) 88 instead. I also only did about 5 short-row repeats, and it's plenty wide.

Other than sewing up doggy toys (he tends to unstuff them) I didn't get any other crafting done. Maybe tonight. :-)

Still not crafting...

but plan to start tomorrow. So here are some pictures for your edification instead. :-)

First up, a fibery pic - the yarn I chose for Knitty's Calorimetry.
Cascade's 220 wool, it's a bit lighter-weight than the pattern calls for and I couldn't get gauge AT ALL with my swatch. I'm going to try doubling the yarn, cast on probably 88 or 92 sts since the pattern runs large, according to the comments I've seen, and see what happens. :-)

Next, an half-fibery pic. Yep, he's still laying on the waffle-weave rug (with Mr. Mousie) - when he's not laying on me:

And last - not fibery at all, but he had just come back from the professional groomer's. Isn't he handsome? :-D
